  1. An authorization code only known by Mike and written on some paper in a safe somewhere. Given what is at stake I don't think that would be over the top.
  2. Was a little reassuring for me to read of other's sites getting back online, so I'll add that my critical site is back up now (where customers download auxiliary content for things they have already purchased). My other site (where customers can buy stuff) isn't as much an issue for me in comparison because it's not part of content people have already purchased, so I don't mind waiting on that one. Best Regards all.
  3. Thanks. Only 70-100gig at moment. For Apple I only have iPad. Sometimes after using iPad then going onto my PC I'll touch the monitor screen and wonder why nothing happens, then realize I'm not using a touch screen.
  4. Thanks Scott. I am relatively basic for technical know how. So I gather Time machine means you can backup several OS rather than each individually within each OS. Was thinking of things like JungleDisk / Acronis. I talked to Rackspace they told me JungleDisk was better for my needs. Up to now I use Crashplan locally for my own secondary drive, but Crashplan has conked out on me, and I was considering using paid / online backup anyway so CrashPlan doesn't interest me for that as their plans are all "unlimited". I also use a 3rd drive which I "Leap frog" by uploading everything once a month and deleting the upload from 3 months ago so I've always got 2x month versions of backup on this drive. This way I can have that backup drive several rooms away so if there's a fire or something and my computer area gets damaged, I can grab my 3rd hard drive and Teddy bear then jump out the window.
  5. Can anyone recommend any good backup services? I am looking for incremental online + local backup for my work computer, not a website, just my own data for work.
  6. Thought I'd ask first it if was OK to post a survey I made from Survey Monkey? It's as the title says; online reviews on places (such as Amazon) vs Evidence of Expertise. Regards,
  7. Whenever I pop into these forums as well as other busier forums; either current threads are something I know nothing about or can't add to, or if the thread is of interest it's often well out of date. As for this post however, knowing that the last post before me was 3 years ago, it might not look too out of place because of the thread's subject matter!
  8. Perhaps a silly question. On my website I originally had : www.homepage/how-to-do-this www.homepage/how-to-do-that etc. Eventually I had more "how to do's" so made a new "tips" page to list them, and was expecting the following result for URL's : www.homepage/tips/how-to-do-this www.homepage/tips/how-to-do-that etc. ...but instead got : www.homepage/tips from which you can go to: www.homepage/how-to-do-this www.homepage/how-to-do-that etc. Which is even better with URL's not changed (otherwise I was expecting to need to to 301 redirects). I'm pleased with it but would just like to know whether my original assumption was wrong, or, could the result have gone either way (as I have seen other websites with similar to the URL structure) and if so what was it dependant on?
  9. Hi SnakEyez. The files have to be accesible to people who have bought a copy of a book or eBook, they are music method books and include audio as downloadable mp3, the link to which is only in copies of the book / eBook. I'm not sure what you are suggesting would apply to that.
  10. H Mike. Sorry for the late reply. It's fine now, it seemed to be delayed response in my webmaster tools. I went into there later on and that saw it said that site had crawl errors and that the robots where functioning.
  11. I have 2 sites under shared hosting with MDD. One of them has downloads only meant for people who have purchased a product (domain name is given with it). To block this site entirely I have placed a robots.txt file into its root directory (public_html), the file is as follows... User-agent: *Disallow: /In my Google webmaster account when testing under Blocked URLs it says everything is allowed and "robots.txt file does not appear to be valid". I have followed the google guidelines https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/156449?hl=en No idea what I have missed. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks.
  12. Looks much better, I like the new background. For the mouseover on the pics perhaps you don't need the text to shift also if possible, as it's already intuitive enough to imply that clicking it will take you to the subject.
  13. As a small but serious online business I was looking for a webhost with people who are dedicated to theirs as much as I am about my own business. It took some research, viewing various places and participating on the webhosting talk forums over at least a couple of months, reading various subjects, what staff of various hosts where saying etc. Once I had a more informed opinion I saw some good hosts including MDD hosting, and this one I chose; their bandwidth is good, I thought the design of their website and logo gave all the right signals (I know from experience designing is not easy) and their prices are very competitive for what you get, they certainly aren’t a cheap frills webhost. So I have been with MDD hosting for 2 years now and can’t see myself going anywhere else. I’m musician so am self-taught at using webhosting and cPanel, so not an expert or techy person. Their knowledge base has enough information for someone like myself to get to grips with things, while their customer service is so good at times I almost feel spoilt, having always been fast in response and informative with problems being resolved in a short time. I would recommend MDD hosting to anyone who is serious about their online business! Gareth http://www.guitar-book.com/
  14. You could do product reviews? In this day and age the idea of impartial honest online reviews is becoming hazy with the activities of the likes of Belkin, J.R Ellory, John Locke, TripAdvisor and Yelp etc. A survey of what kind of products your audience might want reviewed might be good so you know what gets the most interest, then in time become a good resource for this.
  15. Thanks for the feedback. Yes that text is a bit of a compromise between style and practicality.
