  1. Pretty sure an add-on domain exists on it's own merit. I consider (and rightly so I think) that it is totally independant, else how could you run a new domain with say Joomala installed and on another say Drupal, or any other software requiring different htaccess directives? Totally independant surely.
  2. Mine are back online and no work lost - will be backing up my work a bit more regularly from now on.
  3. Bit odd no updates? I just hope I haven't lost any work.
  4. Hi I run a home server - version ubuntu 10.10 - and on checking things over recently I have apache log files that have grown to be enormous. How can I delete them and stop them from being created in the future? If I have any problems I can always activate the creation of these files again at some other time. In the meantime I am more concerned about the space they are using up. Regards Bluesplayer
  5. Ditched my home server shopping site though not until I had learned a great deal about handling databases. My home server setup now displays a computer software site. The computer software uses the database download from Regnow. I acquired it years ago from Phpsugar - ura (Ultimate Regnow Affiliate) - though it was full of problems and bugs. I have now upgraded this software hugely. List of updates: - All Categories page - All Developers - paginated page display and full page - All Offers - integrated the script with all regnow offers - shows throughout the site and has it's own page - with search! - Featured - same as best seller page - Linked it up to a minibb forum to show product reviews - yes or no to review shows on the detail page but will show throughout the site soon. - Integrated Comments system based on Talkback - New boxes underneath titles to show if trial or offers are available - New right side index boxes to show: Top Downloads, Top Rated, Featured Developers, Top Developers, Latest Comments and Stats - New Admin sections to update new database additions. - Fully automated one click update where the product database and coupon databases are updated, cleaned of faulty unwanted products and new sitemaps created. The site can now be made to update on it's own. - Sitemap code for creating a text sitemap that outputs 30,000 urls in just a few seconds to a text file - accepted by Google - nearly 5000 urls indexed now. - Fixed the browse drop down menu for repeat usage and it also correctly displays prices. - Theme choice And lots more besides! I will be keeping this site as I can write software reviews which will help keep me interested in the site. I will probably be adding opensource software and appraisals too. http://computer-software4u.co.uk
  6. Looks like they have rolling this godamn panda update over to the uk now. Looks like I will have to take bluesplayer.co.uk down as the traffic has been destroyed. Seems pointless keeping the ****** thing going now.
  7. Huge thread here with regard to discruntled website owners since the Google crawler changes in February. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=76830633df82fd8e&hl=en Some people's whole means of income have been wiped out. The crawler alterations have only been seen in the US. My own US traffic has totally died a death. Overall traffic is down 3/4 on my own video site. US traffic now is practically zero compared to what it was. Ok my site is crappy for content but many a website has been devastated even though they have tons of totally unique content. Overkill for sure from Google.
  8. I have combined this menu with a 'Ajax Tabs Content Script' from Dynamic Drive. The tab selection has a 'persist' feature and will remember the selection on page loads. You can see a working version here: http://ukproducts4u.co.uk/electronics/tvs/mddhostingforummenu.php It is already on parts of my shopping site - tvs - see signature.
  9. What about a coding forum? Where we can post stuff about website creation and running etc.
  10. Google bot has returned! Not sure I will get the US traffic back as it was though. Will have to wait and see...
  11. Here is a version with the Google Translate Tool built in: http://ukproducts4u.co.uk/test/lowerbar/translator.html
  12. This code might be of interest to some. I have combined a script off dynamic drive to create a collapsable lower screen bar. The bar is fixed and can be shown or hidden by clicking a link. The link is also fixed and shows ontop of the lower bar. Any type of content can be added to it. I am currently showing the latest forum posts on my own site by displaying a mysql query page through an iframe. You can also adjust the transparency of the bar to suit your needs. There are bars you can get for free - Skysa or Wibiya - but they have never really satisfied my requirements. This code might well be useful to you too. Just right click the files and view source. Plain version with dark backgrounds and 70% transparency: http://ukproducts4u.co.uk/test/lowerbar/index.html Iframe version (needs some work to tidy the code a bit) with transparency deactivated on this one but does work if set the same as above): http://ukproducts4u.co.uk/test/lowerbar/iframe.html The bars remember the setting throughout the users browser session - hence the need to use the Animated Collapsible DIV v2.4 from Dynamic Drive. The jquery.js file is also required for the animated bar to show/hide. To view the bar on a live site see my sig below. Right click the page(s) and view source.
  13. After experimenting a bit more I have this solution in place for the cooking shop part of my site: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ukproducts4u.hopto.org$ [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^shops4u-online.co.uk$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://ukproducts4u.co.uk/appliances/cooking/$1 [R=301] I hope Google will move the hopto.org indexed files and shops4u indexed files over to ukproducts4u now. I currently have 13 shopping scripts in place so I am going to alter the code above to suit each one - and also the root htaccess file too.
  14. http://bluesplayer.co.uk There are no messages in Google Webmaster Tools. All other bots are visiting: http://bluesplayer.co.uk/bbclone-moved/refresh.php (you can view that url and it will auto refresh every minute. If you click on 'Time Stats' you will see page loads since saturday and the rapid decline. After studying Webmaster Tools there was a pretty similar dip in traffic in February which I missed. The traffic then returned but whether google stopped visiting entirely during that time - maybe it did stop - I am not sure. I suppose all I can do is see if the bot returns in the next few days.
