DDoS Attacks - A growing problem.

We see DDoS attacks hitting our customers periodically and, over the last 5 years, have seen this trend increase. DDoS attacks have gone from a once every few months type of ordeal to more like once a week or even several times per week for most providers that we communicate with. We're fairly lucky in that we've not seen quite that number of attacks, but it's only a matter of time before this sort of thing is more and more prevalent.


We've seen attacks in the range of 5 to 10 GBPS and, once in our history, nearly 20 GBPS but much larger attacks are possible. CloudFlare has been working to mitigate attacks that were generating traffic up to around 300 GBPS [not targeted at us or a customer of ours] which is no small amount of traffic. Their blog post is definitely a good read and I suggest anybody with more than a passing interest in the internet give it a read.
