Backups Paused for Defragmentation - Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

Recommended Posts

We are going to be pausing the backup process for all servers after the backup process finishes tonight to run a full defragmentation on the backups. This will increase the speed at which backups happen as well as increase the speed at which restorations can be completed. This may not seem like a major issue for individual files or accounts, but should we need to run a full server bare metal restore (due to say, major hardware failure) this defragmentation process can speed the restoration up by as much as 60%.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to get in touch. We do always suggest you keep your own regular backups downloaded just in case no matter whether our backup system is operating nominally or not.
