nbaintel
I currently run a wordpress site with many plugins - thus it's slow loading sometimes. I average about 6000ms in loading time using the basic shared hosting. If I upgrade to semi-dedicated, should I expect a noticeable increase in load speed? Thanks. Michael D.
It reall depends on why it's slow. If it's just poor MySQL queries then it will be a little faster but not amazingly faster. If you're just capping out your CPU it's likely to be much faster as you have access to two CPU cores versus one. Either way, I suggest quality mod_rewrite powered caching such as WP Super Cache. Any site on shared is likely to run at least a little faster on semi-dedicated.
nbaintel
Is it possible to move my hosting to a semi-dedicated plan for 2-3 days? I want to see the difference before I make the switch over. Thanks.

You would need to open a sales ticket and discuss this with them, however we don't typically do trial accounts. Also, semi-dedicated accounts are placed on a specific group of servers so it would require transfering your website to the new server. With the potential for DNS propagation delay, I wouldn't suggest a short term transfer.

I'm a happy customer and from my experience, MDDHosting shared is already faster than any other shared hosting I've tried. Here's my review back in Feb 2012: http://forums.mddhosting.com/topic/689-honest-review-almost-one-year/ I really want to try semi-dedicated to see if my heavy websites improve but I don't want to do it if it's too complicated or if it messes up my site. Michael D.
It won't mess anything up, but we wouldn't suggest doing it on a '3 day' basis. If you want to give it a try, I'd suggest doing it for a month. If you decide not to continue it, we would then need to transfer you back to a regular shared server.
