Michael D.
We run LiteSpeed which, by default, compresses web pages, css, javascript using GZIP compression when the web browser supports and requests it. What this means is that we automatically save you up to 80% of the bandwidth required for each of your page loads. WordPress Super Cache is an EXCELLENT plugin and we strongly suggest all of our users running WordPress run WordPress Super Cache. When configuring WP Super Cache we recommend using the following options:http://www.screen-shot.net/wp_super_cache_settings.png Once you have checked and/or unchecked the right boxes you will scroll down and click the "Update Status" button right below all of the settings you just changed. Lower down on the page it may tell you that your mod_rewrite rules need updating - and you can click the button to have WP Super Cache update the rules for you automatically, or you can do so manually if you desire. The settings listed above and/or the defaults should be fine so long as compression remains off.

Adam
AndIndeed, serving a static file is a LOT faster than proessing PHP+MySQL queries and then building the page from that every load (when nothing has changed). And it's less work that your servers have to do... which leaves more processing power for me!
joshualoy
Do you recommend W3 Total Cache? What are some of the differences between the two?
Michael D.
We don't recommend one over the other - either when configured properly will do an excellent job.
PubliusTX
Since these posts first went up, it appears that Litespeed has released their own caching plugin for Wordpress. https://wordpress.org/plugins/litespeed-cache/ That sounds like a great solution. I'm curious if you guys now recommend it over the others that are available?

I'm curious if you guys now recommend it over the others that are available? The ONLY PAGE Caching plugin i trust is Comet Cache (lite). Not sure why people use W3TC and even WP Super Cache. They create nothing but problems, especially W3TC for shared hosting plans. As for LiteSpeed Caching plugin for Wordpress, works differently from all those plugins. Tested it and while is works ok, it doesn't "understand" some changes when done in a WP site, like some plugins like a Forum or a Q & A. So the new and fresh content is not always served (or you have to set a low TTL like 1-2 minutes). That is for now, they are working on it. I think i will stick with the old and trusty Comet Cache plugin.

W3TC and WPSC are very common and they can work well if properly configured. I'm sure your installation of Comet Cache would likely work better than mine from the standpoint that you're familiar with it and I'm not. If you do want to write a post on how to properly use Comet Cache - we'd be happy to post it to our blog and give you credit and a link-back if you like. If I ever get a chance to play with it I'll look into it and see if I can find what the recommended settings are.
