Clearing apache log files

Recommended Posts

Hi

I run a home server - version ubuntu 10.10 - and on checking things over recently I have apache log files that have grown to be enormous. How can I delete them and stop them from being created in the future? If I have any problems I can always activate the creation of these files again at some other time. In the meantime I am more concerned about the space they are using up.

Regards

On a linux system, lots of processes are writing to log files all the time. Trying to stop them could prove difficult as you may need to edit the config files for many different applications and daemons. Instead, it is generally best to configure logrotate to delete old log files and keep current files from growing too large.
