So I decdied to apply for a paypal Debit card. I didn't really need it but I thought hey its free and It might be a good option to have. I don't know about others but my bank card tends to wear out badly. it doesn't help that the bank has long terms 4 plus years between reissues of a debit card. And I also thought if I ever end up bringing money in through paypal it will be really nice to have access to it right away.

So I figured this would be simply, nope. I was first denied for a debit card. That was fine with me. But Paypal wasn't. Paypal proceeded to put my account into review status and I was asked to prove my identity. Keep in mind my account had never passed much money to me. And I've never had problems with unauthorized access. So after freaking out about losing my account . I sent in all the infromation I could find. And thankfully my account was returned to good standing and oddly I was approved for a debit card. Well now I have a paypal debit card. But I wonder if all that work was worth it.

But its nice to have the option for 1% cash back on purchases if you sign your name or have paypal's logo on your website.

Dose anyone else have one of these cards? If so what has been your experience with it? Do you ever have issues with it not working or having paypal hold funds on you? Also how has your paypal experience been?

We use our PayPal debit card to pay 99% of our bills and have had no issues with it over the last couple of years :)

Thanks Mike. I just tested mine out yesterday. Just a mundane store trip. But it worked so it seems my troubles Paypal are for a while, over.

I love my PayPal debit card. My favorite 'trick' is going to a store and buying something for a $1 then getting $100 cash back for instant access to the money in my Paypal instead of waiting for the bank transfer or paying ATM surcharges.

If you use it at a Chase bank ATM it counts as a "purchase" and not an ATM Withdraw (not sure why) and there are no fees from the ATM or PayPal. I do it all the time :)

My only beef with the card was I lost my wallet back in 2008. Reported the card as lost to Paypal which cancelled it but it took them a year to send me a new one. Aside from that it's been great.

I canceled one and requested a new one and it took about 2 weeks to get to me. I have two (one for me, one for the wife) so it was no big deal.

Just to expand on what Mike said. And he is right its super easy. Paypal draws money from your paypal account and if need your back up bank account. So say you don't have enough in your paypal your bank account will be charged what ever is needed. You can also limit the pull from your bank account. I think the limit for how much can be taken is like 1000 from the bank account and 2000 from your paypal account. So its a 3k a day limit. If I remember correctly.

I've never had the pull from the bank account work properly, so I don't rely on it.

Sounds like it isn't a very reliable. How do I go about applying for one? I tried this link but it just direct me to my PayPal account overview page. (a.k.a the "PayPal account homepage")

It's only available in the United States, as far as I know. If you're not in the US, then that's why it redirected you to the homepage.
