Hard to setup server site SPAM filter?

Recommended Posts

Mike, just wondering if it's possible to setup server site SPAM filter for very basic spam words i.e.

I mean on your site, before it even gets to my accounts.

Viagra

Genuine

Pfizer

Approved

Authorized

Free

Promotional

0ffer

I have spam filter implemented on my Pc's and laptop, but my BlackBerry Storm is going crazy.

TIA

George

You can just set up account level filters in your cPanel - I have done the same thing. cPanel->"Account Level Filtering"

"Genuine" is a not a good word to filter (because I can think of a lot of legitimate uses of the word in a legitimate email, neither is approved, authorized, free, promotional, etc..." But I could see Pfizer being filtered :)

Thank you kindly Mike. I know I can do that in ALL my accounts. I was just wondering if this can be done on your server site "before" it get's to my accounts and the rest of your clients. Maybe not all the filters as you indicated, but Viagra and Pfizer for sure. These two alone send me a lot of spam.

Like I said, just wondering if it's feasible...

TIA

OK, this is the latest -hope it will work..

In cPanel->"Account Level Filtering"

Rule = Multi name

From>contains:

Authorized, Approved, VIAGRA, Genuine, Pfizer, Supplier, facebook, Retaile, Best

Discard messages.

Done.

This should work - right?

If you would like to open a support ticket to have us look at the filter we can advise you better as to whether it should work. If you look at my example above you will see we have each word we wish to be filtered on a separate line separated with an "or" in the drop down box.

Thanks Mike, really appreciate your help. I did it already as in my last post and seems to work. My spam is down to almost nothing. I don't get to much spam in my laptop (I have antispam software installed), but my Blackberry is a pain - it get's it all :)

Anyway my setup is working, I did one account at the time. It would be nice to have global setting in CPanel for ALL the accounts or something on your server site (global for all your clients) for the basic stupid keywords - viagra etc.

Regardless - thanks for the offer, but I should be fine for now.

Best 2010 to you and the staff.

We've been looking into some better spam filtering systems but unfortunately most of them are very expensive. We already have a lot of things like the R1Soft Backups that we didn't increase our base pricing for but if we add to much more prices will have to go up and we're trying to avoid that :)
