Maybe if there was more wrong with your service, the forums would get more use!

Just a thought...

:)

Are you trying to say I should go around tripping over server power cords and whatnot? LOL

I do find it odd that there are barely any posts with the size of the client base we have - I guess it has a lot to do with our target market.

I think most of your users are technically-adept. For the stuff that's strictly related to MDD Hosting, that part works smoothly and so support is rarely needed.

I know me personally, most of the assistance I need is with the software I run on the site, each of which has its own support forum.

Having the forums here is still a good idea and I wouldn't want you to do away with them. When something does come up, it's a tool that you want available. MDD Forums are like a fire extinguisher: rarely used, but critical to have available when-needed.

It is much easier to keep masses updated on an ongoing issue via a forum thread than massive amounts of tickets. I think a majority of the post count here is from when we were being ddosed and were updating clients here on the forum.

It's much more efficient to write one update every 15 to 30 minutes as things change than to continuously update 30+ support tickets or more :-)

And personally I do think people who wants to pay for your services, will first look out the forums. If there's tons of problem posts, will they sign up? I don't think I would.. But the quiet forum also says, no clients...

Two edged sword, isn't it.

I do like to read company forums, announcements there and not so typical questions.

Keep it up! :)

I do check the forums when I have an issue. :)

Of course, my last few issues have been times when the server has been unresponsive, and my site is on the same server as the forums, so the forums aren't any more-responsive than my site at those times. :)

But hey, I just thought of a new question I could post here, so I did so in a new thread.

I do sort of miss the forums of my old webhost provider... but that's because they had so many countless thousands of customers, so the forums became an active and useful resource. Granted, one doesn't need to be a customer to use their forums... but I'm too bitter still from how I was treated there to go back and use anything of theirs again (I stopped using the forums long before I left them).

Ironically, long after the drama/episode that sparked my boycott of their forums, I was not only vindicated by my predictions coming true, but by former employees in another forum basically coming out and spilling the beans, trashtalking the webhost (their former employer) and basically confirmed everything I suspected/predicted.

I don't miss the drama and the censorship, but I do miss the sheer mass of activity that made their forums such a valuable resource. Before they were bought out, it was nirvana.

Yeah large forums are nice. I must say though that Mike seems to check these everyday and if you have a problem and haven't put in a ticket yet he responds quite quickly. I haven't had any problems lately but that just because his service runs so well. Thanks for all you do Mike.

  • 2 months later...
I remember the message that was here saying to come over to another forum and visit but I guess Mike decided to stick with his own. I think this is better anyway.

I run a few different forums - this one is specific to MDDHosting although you don't have to be a client to post here :) There are just some sections that are client-only.
