I probably should look into things like that to help me with my sites, but with what I make a month which is very very low below poverty I just have to do with what I have. I also use word press for my blogs but other than that...just a plain jane 3 column CSS for the sites.

example would be

www.soberresourcesnetworks.com

OCportal is free. Specially with version 4 where they made it open source.

On the older versions the only thing that paying for it did was remove the logo and branding.

Joomla is one of those CMS's that I found could not do ny thing I wanted to with out paying arm and a leg for mods that did what i wanted. To me its not a cms but a glorified article system.

http://www.knol.com/ is Joomla based ;) I don't know I've only helped people with their Joomla and never used it myself.

OCPortal - never even looked into it, could very well be a better solution.

If you did not try the latest Joomla (1.5.x) you should really try it, it is a great improvement.

Also most modules/plugins/components are available for free; granted it may take some time to find them but www.joomla.org is a great starting point.

Some nice Joomla sites:

amd here you will find many more: http://www.bestofjoomla.com
