Didn't want to transfer my domain but says it is propagating?

Hi, I am pretty much a newbie. I already have a domain name that I did not want to transfer. I was just going to point the dns server to the I.P. of the site that I build at MDDhosting. When I was buying the webhosting service it had three options. Register a Domain, Transfer a Domain and use an existing Domain with another server and possibly order one later. I chose the third one because it seemed to fit what I wanted to do but now I think maybe I misunderstood. The email I received from MDDhosting says that my domain is propagating and that after it propagates I will be able to access my website by using the domain name directly. Am I missing something? I don't want my domain to be with my webhosting. How can the website show up under my domain if I didn't change the I.P. in the DNS control panel. I am so confused. Thank you for your help.
Also, where can I find the websites I.P. address so I can point the dns there?

Thank you. I think that is what I am looking for? I still don't understand why it says my domain is propagating if I didn't transfer it though? Is propagating something else? When I look up the definition it sounds like transferring but I know I didn't choose to transfer my domain. Thanks

Your domain HAVE not transfer to mddhosting unless you told them to, which you have not.

Propagating is when you update your name sever on your domain and it may take 24-72 hours for MOST of the DNS people use to update with your domain and the ip to visit it. (E.G they use google DNS (8.8.8.8), so google has to update in their list on what ip they give to visit your website)

Got this from a other website:

"Once you make changes to your domain with the registrar you purchased your domain from, the changes will take anywhere from 5 minutes to 72 hours for propagation to occur depending on your ISP and how often they update the DNS records.

Domain propagation is the process of your registrar handing off the changes of your domain to root DNS servers, ISPs acquire records from the root servers, ISPs to other ISPs and so on until you see the changes reflect on your computer with your internet service provider. Some service providers update their records more often than others and receive changes faster. As a result of this, often you will not be able to get to your website by its' domain name but a friend can. Simply wait out until the changes propagate to your ISP. "

Thank you. I think I understand. I think Mddhosting was just giving me the timeframe assuming I would be changing my the dns right away but I want to wait until I have a working site to direct it to. Thanks.

Correct - most customers that sign up put in new nameservers immediately. I'll see if we can't re-word it for it to make a little more sense.
