  1. Thanks Mike! It's reassuring to know the problem has been resolved (even though I'm now happily zipping along on another server).
  2. I too have noticed slow response times on Jasmine. It seems to vary quite a bit. I also have checked the site with GTmetrix, Pingdom, etc. Plus I have looked at the Net panel in Firebug. The delay in loading (when there is one) is "Waiting for response from server" or "Time to first byte." Sometimes the response is just fine, but other times it can take as long as 4 to 6 seconds or more for a page to load. I set up a very modest static HTML page for testing and saved the PDF from GTmetrix. It took 6.8 seconds for the page to load a total of 6.3 KB (html, css, js). That was the slowest. But three out of four times that I checked my homepage that day (Oct 28), GTmetrix reported it as slow loading. Slow loading is not a rare occurrence. It is becoming more and more the norm it seems. I am considering switching to a premium hosting plan if necessary, but hopefully something else can be done to remedy the problem.
  3. Are there any upgrades planned for other servers? I'm on Jasmine and it's slower than it used to be.
  4. My entire site is being loaded from another domain. (www.mydomain.com.s45.ru.wbprx.com) If I enter the url (with my actual domain in there) it shows up in my latest visitor stats, My user agent, not my ip though. I have had similar problems before, where certain sites (dynamically?) suck up portions of my content and display it on their pages, but not my entire site! It's not in an iframe or anything so I can't block it with frame buster code. Nothing in the referrer that I can block. Very frustrating when people help themselves to my work!
  5. I just use a short list myself, based on who I've seen causing a problem on my site. (Or causing a problem at my previous host, that is, due to CloudLinux settings evidently.)
  6. Problem with that approach is Litespeed doesn't support SetEnv directives. (I had an old ticket on that issue with a link provided to doc's, but evidently old tickets aren't kept around here.) I use RewriteRules to achieve the same result.
  7. It says: "This function will display the last 300 errors for your site." But that doesn't appear to be the case. Often there are none. I notice that when there are error messages they disappear after 15 minutes or so. Why so soon? Since I'm in the middle of a major site cleanup it would be helpful if error messages would stick around awhile. Thanks for the always excellent service!

    Windows 8

I don't have windows 8. The ads and early reviews inspired me to look into linux. (I still have windows 7 though.) I have been using Lubuntu on an old XP box for a while now and I really like it. I just installed Debian Wheezy on an old iBook G4. Too early to say how well that will work. I seriously doubt if I will ever get windows 8. I'll wait to see what they come up with next. Installing and maintaining a server on linux is way easier than on windows! I'll never turn back on that.
  9. I've been with MDD Hosting for about six months now so I thought it would be a good time to offer a review. I left my previous host after being with them for 10 years when their rate of growth outpaced their ability to provide quality service to their customers. It was a hard decision but I'm so glad I did it and I'm so glad I chose MDD Hosting! There have been very few problems on the server I've been on but when there was a problem I was really impressed with how it was handled. Updates on the forum were very frequent and informative. I really trust that whatever might come up in the future will be handled as expeditiously and effectively as possible. The few times I have had a question or problem and needed support, responses were remarkably fast and always helpful. I would definitely recommend that anyone looking for shared hosting at a reasonable price give MDD Hosting a try. I give them an A+.
  10. FYI, you may think that you have your e-mail client set up properly for SSL/TLS and yet your login info may still be transmitted in the clear. This is probably a rare problem but it happened to me last night. The e-mail client I've been using is Thunderbird and I believe it may have been due to an error during setup of an account where I received a message that indicated the full e-mail address wasn't valid for username. (We're supposed to provide the full e-mail address for username, correct?) Some of the settings are a bit hard to check and change in Thunderbird once the account is setup, it seems. I was able to receive e-mail without a problem and everything seemed OK until I tried to send an e-mail, when I was informed that my password was incorrect. Yet I was sure that the password was correct. I double-checked and entered the password a few more times only to receive more error messages that the password was incorrect. Then I started to receive timeout errors, including on another OS where I had previously been able to send e-mails. (Blocked due to the incorrect logins, evidently.) When I contacted support I was told that my password had been transmitted unencrypted and that it was incorrect. Yet I was 100% sure that my password was correct and that I was properly set up on both IMAP and SMTP for SSL/TLS. Bizarre, huh! I think I'll just stick with web mail.
  11. I second that. I've been here about three months now and have been consistently impressed with speed and reliability. Support has been excellent. The handling of the recent problems on Jasmine really inspired my faith and confidence. I absolutely love MDD Hosting!
  12. OK thanks. I just signed up. Instant activation on a Sunday morning. Awesome! One more question on limits: If you hit entry processes limit (error 508?) how long would that error appear for subsequent visitors? I hope these questions are not too much cause for concern on your end. The entry processes are generally just 1 or 2 on my account. I just like to know what my visitors might be encountering on those rare occasions the max might be reached. Thanks again for the quick smooth setup
  13. I've been with my current host for over 10 years. Unfortunately, they are putting a priority on growing the business and not keeping up with support for existing clients. Staying out of loyalty for previous years of good service is no longer making sense, so I feel a need to move on. In my search for a new host I started by comparing what my current host has been offering with what is typical for shared hosting, and double-checking to be sure that shared hosting is still sufficient for my needs. I'm well within the specs on disk usage and bandwidth for your basic shared hosting plan. But I want to double check on settings for memory and cloud linux. When cloud linux was first applied to my server I was having a few memory errors. I was able to resolve that by blocking a few problematic user agents in htaccess. (The "Cannot allocate memory" messages appeared to be primarily associated with people trying to download my entire site at once and rarely happen anymore. The max is consistently below 240M.) In my efforts to find what are typical settings it seems that those at my existing host are half the virtual memory recommendations for cloud linux which evidently is 1g, correct? Also when I view the output from phpinfo, I see memory_limit is 64M. As far as I know that has never posed a problem and I do keep a close eye on error logs, but I just wanted to check what your limits are. Also, will I be able to use .htaccess files on a shared server? (rewrite rules, redirects, setenvif, etc.) Do you allow access to the home directory, above web root? (for paypal credential files, etc.)
