iansltx
So I was tasked with creating a new website for my student government (Colorado School of Mines). An MDDHosting account, a Simple Machines forum, a WPMU install and twelve and a half hours of work later, it's functional and, at least in my opinion, looks decent. The main site runs on a theme called Ahimsa, though I hand-edited the CSS to switch the color scheme. May do that again actually, but the default scheme was a bit garish if you ask me. The site used to be hosted on campus servers, however they don't allow dynamic content on that system. The solution: host off-site. The reason for dynamic content: forums are good for feedback, and WordPress is editable by mere humans, a goal since previous webmaster-administered sites have ceased to be updated when the webmaster moved on. This should solve that problem. So,, what do you guys think?

Also you might move the forum link up to the section with admin and archive so that people can find it easier. I see your using SMF RC1 I played around with the beta its pretty nice. If you need smf themes. http://custom.simplemachines.org/ also you might want to post in the other empty boards of the forum it will help know what to expect. Good start. Now get some sleep.lol

sremick
They haven't released a date yet?Nope, and unfortunately it still hasn't come out yet, 3 months after the post above. And there's no telling if there'll be an RC3 before release. SMF dev team really likes to play their cards close to their chest. Heh. Frustrates me too as my most-popular site runs SMF too and a lot of mod and theme developers are abandoning 1.1.x and focusing exclusively on SMF2. Plus the new theming for SMF2 is going to be fantastic. SMF1 looks archaic in-comparison. Trying ever so hard to be patient... but waiting as silently as I can with baited breath. I really like SMF but they need to change a few things. They need to get their development on track. I know its free service but they aren't staying competitive as of now. Its been what years sense 2.0 was started they had hoped to be near done at the end of last year and its already June and we haven't even seen RC2 yet. At this rate we won't see a final release until the end of the year. Lets face it 1.1 is not feature completive with other boards. SMF and Mybb are for me at least the only free choices (I can't stand phpbb even thought its getting better). I hate be so negative but with the slow speed of development and the slowness to add competitive features. SMF is falling behind. I don't think they need to pile on features like VB dose but they need to relativity there goals and where their going. Lets face it right Mybb from a features and point is very good. SMF could just as completive and still resource efficient. And they still have a fair better themeing and nodding community. But SMF has to one get a more stable group of developers as well as more people in general (over the last several months people have came and gone as devs. And they need start being more aggressive with leading the market. SMF can be just as completive as anyone else they just need to set out to do so.
