Michael D.
We highly recommend Domaintools.com however Whois.sc is a quick way to perform a WHOIS look-up without having to navigate several pages. You can do a WHOIS lookup by either visiting http://www.whois.sc/ and entering the domain in question or you can shortcut the whole system by appending the domain to be checked to the end of the URL such as http://www.whois.sc/domaintocheck.com Checking the WHOIS Information on a domain can tell you who owns the domain, when it was registered, the ICANN domain registrar, and the contact information including mailing address and phone number of the company/individual in most cases. You will also be able to see the nameserver information on the domain which can give you an idea of where it is hosted in most cases but not always at first glance.
