Michael D.
So I've loved taking pictures for a long time (ever since I can remember) and recently got a really nice camera for Christmas (Canon EOS 60D). I wanted to see if there was anybody else on the forums that also were photographers (hobbyist or professional). If you're a photographer for fun or employ, post up! Traveler
Hi Mike, I got my Canon 30D about 4.5 years ago, and 7D 1.5 years ago, and I can say I don't think I've been humbled so much with anything else but this photography stuff. It's not the cameras or the lenses; they are great. For me it is getting to stop long enough to compose and steady the shot. A few tips: 1) shoot in RAW for the most flexibility later, 2) try to learn to shoot in manual mode, 3) get some decent catalog and retouching software like Lightroom, 4) don't forget to stop and enjoy the moments outside the viewfinder (have fun)! Michael D.
I have the 60D, an EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, and an EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM and I also did pick up a copy of LightRoom 3, PhotoShop Elements 10 and I have been shooting in RAW+JPEG. The JPEG is for quick posts to FB/Email when the pic is good and the RAW is for the photos that are good but become great with some quality post-processing. Been picking up EF lenses in case I ever go to full-frame but before the 60D I had a 2nd gen Digital Rebel XT that is 8MP (i.e. it's OLLLDDDD). Gave that camera to a friend of mine for Christmas since I got a new one myself. The only things I'd really like to pick up at this time are a 1-to-1 macro lens and a 70-200mm but neither of these are urgent and probably won't happen until a birthday or next Christmas . I've taken a few pictures I *love* with the 50mm but just got the 24-70mm today and haven't had much chance to use it on account of the broken middle finger on my left hand! Here are a few images of my dogs taken with the 50mm, I've linked them instead of embedding to save bandwidth and reduce load-time for those who don't necessarily want to see the pics:Picture 1Picture 2Picture
