LFD Emails

After correcting my email address to actually receive messages from my VPS, I'm getting a few "LFD" messages (Login Failure Daemon, I guess). Most are just reporting a suspicious file, with a couple looking like intrusion attempts on email accounts.

Is this a normal thing? Its a little like sitting in an ER and realizing you never knew how many accidents there were on Friday night ...

Well, it made me think a lot about security - and kind of re-affirms my decision to go with a managed VPS rather than un-managed. I suspect I'd spend a ton of time worrying about it if I wasn't positive about how to harden the server against intrusion.
