Softaculous Questions reguarding Softaculous
#1

I was just poking around in cPanel and seen Softaculous. It would be useful to me for Wordpress rollouts but I have a few questions: Are updates handled automatically? If so, am I still able to use Wordpress's build-in updater? Will adding plugins and themes under /wp-content mess up anything with Softaculous? Lastly, does my user still own files?
Thanks,
Dan
Thanks,
Dan
Good News: I just saved a bunch of money on my hosting by switching to MDD!

Softaculous will install Wordpress for you, but then updating is still up to you. You will have access to the "one click" update within Wordpress (when you log into Admin, you see a link that you need to update).
Its just an installer, so everything else remains the same. Once installed, you can hack it to your heart's content, just as if you used FTP to upload it and install it yourself.

Softaculous will send you an email notification about updates to the WordPress core, usually within a few days of it being released. Themes and plugins are fine and wont cause any issues. And yes, your user owns the files. It simply copies the files into your account.

The only slight negative with the auto-installs is that you don't know the mySQL database password without looking in the config file. But that's a minor issue.

Most using an auto-installer are not concerned with this... In my experiences most using them actually have no idea about databases or php in general and just want things to "work".
