Michael D.
Demeter has been solid and reliable for nearly 5 years now.We have begun to experience some issues with MySQL on the server. We explored all options in resolving the MySQL issues without disruption including reaching out to our software vendors for support but none of those attempts have succeeded. Our software vendors believe we must upgrade to the next stable version of the server operating system - CentOS 6. We are out of options at this point as far as fixing the issue on Demeter as-is without any sort of transfers. The reason a transfer is required is that there is no direct upgrade path from CentOS 5, which the server is running now, to CentOS 6, which the server needs to be upgraded to.We are currently in the process of configuring new hardware to take over for Demeter and we will be dispatching emails to account holders as accounts are moved. We will be leaving Demeter online as-is for 72 hours after the last account is migrated to the new hardware to ensure no sites show offline and no email is missed. We expect to begin the transfer on Tuesday evening and will send out an email to all customers prior to beginning as well as once we are done. An email has already been sent two days ago to all clients advising of the pending transfer.
Michael D.
We will be proceeding with the migrations tonight. We expect to begin around 10 PM ET. We will be migrating all IP addresesses from the old hardware to the new and ensuring that no site IP addresses change in this process. We will be sending out an email 30 minutes prior to us beginning the transfer process and then will send out another email once the process is completed. We will also be updating this thread. Michael D.
An email was just sent out to all affected clients giving a 90 minute warning concerning this migration. Another email will be sent out to all clients once the migration is completed.
astro
I've been experiencing 'could not connect to Mysql' error occassionally (2-3 times in a day) since past 4 days. Is this because of migration
Michael D.
No - that's actually the core reason behind this migration. If you read the full original post in this thread - we outline this. I'll quote it below for your convenience:We have begun to experience some issues with MySQL on the server. We explored all options in resolving the MySQL issues without disruption including reaching out to our software vendors for support but none of those attempts have succeeded. Our software vendors believe we must upgrade to the next stable version of the server operating system - CentOS 6. In short: we are migrating due to the MySQL issues - the MySQL issues are not due to the migration.
Michael D.
We are copying account files, then copying and restoring cPanel data/MySQL Data, switching the IPs over to the new machine, and then double-checking the files to make sure any changes made before the IP switch is copied over. It's taking time but we're handling things individually to ensure it is done properly without issue. That said we are human - if you experience an issue let us know. Michael D.
The transfer has been done for a bit but we have been working to ensure everything works as expected. We found that the MySQL Governor is misbehaving and causing MySQL issues so we've temporarily stopped it while we get with our software vendors. At this point there should be nothing for you to do and we can consider this completed. If you do experience any issues let us know in a support ticket please. ttfan
It seems to have gone well. I'm noticing huge performance improvements too, it's running like lightning again! Great job Mike!
ttfan
Perhaps I spoke to early... although the site runs fast most of the time, I get regular times where it simply times out. This is occurring many times per day now.Although I've put in a support ticket to look into this, they seem to blame it on my site, telling me to optimise it to improve performance... Since the software has not changed for well over a year, my site runs very lean and is well cached, there is no malware, and these issues only started within the days after the migration, I don't think my site is the issue. Has anyone else on Demeter experienced these issues?

Has anyone else on Demeter experienced these issues? You are being advised to optimize your site because the server itself is having no issues:http://www.screen-shot.net/2014-12-12_11-13-59.png That is the last 7 days and you can see the average idle CPU is 70% and the lowest dip was 38.92% which is about ~7 CPU cores doing nothing. Here is storage I/O CPU - it never even goes above 1%:http://www.screen-shot.net/2014-12-12_11-15-40.png The server itself is fine - if you are experiencing slowness now it would be due to your resource usage. It's simply quite possible that the newer version of the Kernel and CloudLinux are doing a better job of limiting you when you're exceeding your resource allocations. The versions we were on before were fairly old due to the limited kernel version. Please PM me the ticket ID.
